چکیده

Though the Kyoto Protocol concerns six greenhouse gases, most appraisals in the past have focused exclusively on CO2. But it is now acknowledged that, at least for some countries, there is an important potential of abating non-CO2 greenhouse gases with a relatively low cost. It is then the topic of the paper to present a multi-gas assessment of the Kyoto Protocol and to compare the results with the single CO2 case. The assessment is done with GEMINI-E3, a world General Equilibrium Model. The first part of the paper describes the database and the methodology implemented in order to model non-CO2 greenhouse gases. The second part presents the results of the standard No Trade Kyoto scenario, with a single CO2 or a multi-gas strategy. Taking into account the potential of abatement of nonCO2 greenhouse gases greatly reduces the cost of committing to the Kyoto Protocol, but exhibits significant differences between countries according to the importance of the corresponding emissions in the initial situation.

Estimation of gas emission released from a municipal solid waste landfill site through a modeling approach: A case study, Sanandaj, Iran

Sanitary landfill is the common strategy for municipal solid waste management in developing countries. Anaerobic decomposition of disposed wastes in landfill under favorable conditions will lead to the landfill gas (LFG) emissions, considering as emerging air pollutants. The emission of greenhouse gases, including methane, resulting from municipal solid waste disposal and treatment processes ar...

The effect of Kyoto emission targets on domestic CO2 emissions: A synthetic control approach

We use recent developments in the empirics of comparative case studies to analyze the effect of binding emission targets under the Kyoto Protocol on the development of CO2 emissions of seven major Annex B countries. In particular, we investigate whether committing to a specific greenhouse gas emissions target had an effect on actual CO2 emissions of Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Great Bri...

What are the Gains from a Multi-Gas Strategy?

The Kyoto Protocol assigns limits for the aggregate emissions of six greenhouse gases, but most economic analyses focus on CO2 abatement. What are the potential gains if policy makers exploit the flexibility in a multi-gas abatement strategy? We extend the EDGE model to include sinks and non-CO2 gases and show that a multigas strategy reduces costs by 20-35% in the Western Annex B countries. Ma...

Modeling Lateral Communication in Holonic Multi Agent Systems

Agents, in a multi agent system, communicate with each other through the process of exchanging messages which is called dialogue. Multi agent organization is generally used to optimize agents’ communications. Holonic organization demonstrates a self-similar recursive and hierarchical structure in which each holon may include some other holons. In a holonic system, lateral communication occurs b...
